Brand diversity

Brand diversity is a measure of how many unique brands appear in an industry vertical. The higher the diversity score, the more brands, and the more competition.

The lower the score, the more saturated the vertical is with major brands.

Brand Diversity Score: We calculate how many unique brands appear in a vertical, then divide by the total number of prompts.
Example: If the same brands show up in every prompt, the score is 1 (low diversity). If 5 different brands appear per prompt, the score is 5 (high diversity).

How many unique sources appear in a vertical, divided by the total number of prompts.

Source Diversity Score: We calculate how many unique sources appear in a vertical, then divide by the total number of prompts. Example: If the same sources are cited in every prompt, the score is 1 (low diversity). If 5 different sources are cited per prompt, the score is 5 (high diversity).

Overlap of top 100 sources and mentions

We looked at how many of the top 100 cited sources also appeared in the top 100 mentioned brands within each AI model and vertical. For example, in the digital tech vertical:

  • ChatGPT had 15 brands that were both top sources and mentions
  • Google AI Mode had 27
  • A higher number indicates greater overlap between sources and brand mentions, revealing how often trusted sources are also recognized brands that earn a mention.
